James Joseph Lee Keaton, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away at home on July 9, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born in Portageville, Missouri on April 2, 1941, to the late Y.J. and Amanda (Laws) Keaton. Known to most as Keaton, he was a generous and lovable man. He married Susan Reeves on May 15, 1961.
Keaton worked at General Motors for 32.5 years before retiring in 2002. He and Susan attended Oak Park Baptist Church, and he was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Wayne Township.
A classic car enthusiast, Keaton loved collecting 1957 Chevys. He enjoyed working on cars, watching John Wayne westerns, and listening to Elvis Presley. In the 1980s, he and Susan collected antique dolls. Above all, Keaton will be fondly remembered for his impeccable work ethic, sense of humor, and being a wonderful husband and provider.
In addition to his parents, Keaton is preceded in death by several siblings.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Susan Keaton; sons, James J. Keaton, Jr. (Carol) and Darrin Keaton; daughters, Dawn Engle (David), Cindy Keaton, and Lisa Keaton; grandchildren, Amber Engle, Tabitha Thorn (Jeff), and Stacy Darrough (Bob); and great-grandchildren, Cameron McGiver, Cadence McGiver, and Chloe Darrough.
In honoring Keaton’s wishes, his earthly remains will be cremated and there will be no services. Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory has been entrusted with his arrangements.
