James R. Hensley

James R. Hensley, 79, Mooresville, passed away February 16, 2016, in Plainfield Health Care. Mr. Hensley was born November 3, 1936, in Mooresville, to the late James N. and Virginia Lee (Archer) Hensley.
He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1954 and attended Purdue University. Jim also served in the Indiana National Guard. He worked as a manufacturer’s representative for many years in the sporting goods industry. He also worked as the general manager of Palmer Dodge and retired as the general manager of Weliever Chevrolet. A strong Republican, Jim served two terms on the Morgan County Council and a term on the Mooresville Town Council in the 1990’s. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Kennel Club. He was a breeder of Beagles for many years and also judged the Beagle Field Trials. An avid fisherman, Jim was a member of the Bass Club and was a Bass Pro fisherman while living in Florida. He will be missed by a loving family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Raymond Hensley, Jr. and a sister, Patty Tungate.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Chambers) Hensley, to whom he was united in marriage September 27, 1973; children, Cynthia Evans of Greenwood, Kara Mitchell (Gene) of Mooresville, Rhonda Wallen of Belle Union, Tim Hensley of Danville, and Deborah Jones of Mooresville; sister, Judith Ann Daniels; 16 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of James R. Hensley on Friday, February 19, 2016, 5 to 8 p.m. in Springhill Christian Center (the corner of Rooker Road and SR 144), Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 1 pm at the church on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall. I had the pleasure of working with Jim when I was just starting out in the work world. He taught me many valuable lessons that I have applied throughout my career. It was always a joy to see him and get a big hug. He will be dearly missed.
