James R. Murphy
76, of Clayton, passed away on July 30, 2025, at Hendricks Regional Hospital. Jim was born on December 5, 1948, in Farmersburg, Indiana to the late James Edgar and Elberta May (Alumbaugh) Murphy.

Jim proudly and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. Upon returning home, Jim worked as a mechanic and later as service manager for Wilcher Ford in Mooresville from 1972-1996. However, retirement wasn’t for Jim. He was a proud lifetime member of the V.F.W Post #1111 and the American Legion Post #103 in Mooresville. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring antique tractors, building things for others as well as enjoying the simple pleasure of coloring. He will be remembered as a devoted family man, who was honest, kind, caring, and always putting other’s needs before himself.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Dixie Shaner and Paul Murphy.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara (Reed) Murphy; daughter Ann Huntsman (Bryan); son Pat Murphy (Bonita); sisters Judy Bolinger, Cindy Sullivan; 5 grandchildren Austyn, Ethan, Megan, Alyssa, Corbin, and a great granddaughter Ally.

Family and friends will gather in celebration of Jim’s life on Monday, August 4th from 2:00pm- 4:00pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, with funeral services beginning at 4:00pm Monday in the funeral home. In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated following the services.
