Jean A. Mertens

Jean A. Mertens, 81, recently of Mooresville, formerly of Queens, New York, passed away suddenly April 12, 2016, in the Emergency Room at St. Francis Hospital, Mooresville. Mrs. Mertens was born May 6, 1934, in the Bronx, New York, to the late Edward A. and Anna (Kane) Roberts.

She graduated from Columbus High School (NY) in 1952. She worked for several years for Bell Telephone until 1961. She attended St. Benedict Catholic Church in New York and was an avid reader. In recent years, as her health declined, she enjoyed watching the Golden Girls and spending time with family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick P. Mertens; son, Richard Mertens; brothers, Edward “Bill” Roberts and Kenneth Roberts.

Survivors include her son, Peter Mertens (James Bailey) of Mooresville; daughter, Laurie Mertens (Michael MacKenzie) of Queens, New York; sisters, Jane Vicari of Florida and Gail Parnian of New York; daughter-in-law, Pam Mertens of Plainfield; grandchild, Michael MacKenzie, Jr.; great grandchild, Taylor Danielle Wood; great great grandchildren, Rosealyn and Lillian.

Friends and family will gather on Monday, April 18, 2016, 4 to 6 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
