John R. Sappington, 85 of Mooresville, passed away during the early morning hours on December 9, 2015 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Mooresville. He was born October 21, 1930 in Terre Haute to the late William H. and Theresa M. (Lynch) Sappington. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On June 27, 1955 John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kathryn A. (Carney) Sappington; she survives.

A hard worker, John was a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Indianapolis for 35 years, he retired in 1989. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic in Mooresville, American Legion Post #103 in Mooresville and the Moose Lodge in Speedway. John enjoyed sports and traveling, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his loving family.

Other survivors include his children, John R. Sappington, II (Wife: Deborah) of Greenwood, William T. Sappington (wife: Lora) of Whiteland and Mary Jane Stewart of Mooresville; his sister, Pansy Ann Sappington of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, Eric M. Sappington, Alissa J. Sappington, Kayla R. Sappington, Tyler M. Sappington, Logan T. Sappington, Clayton B. Sappington and Jenna I. Stewart; nine great grandchildren. John was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Theresa M. Stewart.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, December 14 in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Mooresville with calling there from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
