Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana

Judy Ann Schwert, 82, of Indianapolis, passed peacefully surrounded by the warmth of her cherished family at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born on February 12, 1943, in Indianapolis, IN, Judy was the youngest of fourteen children born to the late Claus Albert Stuck and Gertrude Minnie (Arnold) Stuck. Judy lived a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Judy dedicated a significant part of her life to serving as a Jail Deputy for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, where her strong character and compassionate nature shone through. Outside of work, Judy was a woman of many passions. She adored playing cards, whether it was euchre, poker, or hand and foot, and thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of gambling with friends. Her social spirit drew in lifelong friends, many of whom she met during her childhood. Those who were fortunate enough to know Judy, will remember her infectious laughter during spirited card games and social gatherings. Perhaps reflecting in the nostalgia of her younger days, she enjoyed music from the 50’s and 60’s. Above all, Judy’s greatest treasure was her family.

She will be deeply missed by many friends and family including her children, Ronnie (Jenny) Schwert of Indianapolis, Rebecca Hayden of Martinsville, and Kristie (Damon) Schwert-Coleman of Ruskin, FL; grandchildren, James Dallas (Lindsay) Hayden, Justin Hayden, Taylor Schwert, Jasmine Coleman, Paige (Joshua) Graves, Kyle (Adamarie) Coleman, and Bailey Schwert; thirteen great grandchildren; and her beloved great nephew, Jamie (Jenny) Ferguson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claus Albert and Gertrude Stuck; all of her siblings; and her son-in-law, James Hayden.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, February 3rd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. 5. Miss Judy was always an inspiration to me I aspire to be as good as her. She pretty much taught me everything about being a good officer and it was an honor to work next to her and a privilege to have gotten to work with her for as long as I did. I learned so many things from Miss Judy. And she was always ready with open arms to accept a new person and willing to show them the correct way to do things she had a knack for loving people. Once you were accepted by Judy you became a part of a large family that loved each other very much and cherished the woman they called Aunt Judy. But Judy didn’t only like to play cards she was the best cook around for sure anything she cooked it was good trust and believe me when I tell you that and she loved to get out and dance and have a good time she always made a party wherever she went whether it was playing cards or dancing or just eating and enjoying good food together Miss Judy always put the biggest smile on your face I’m proud to be able to say that I worked with her and that she inspired me daily. I love you Miss Judy and you will always be missed but you will never be forgotten.

  6. Judy was a great woman with a beautiful smile and a wonderful soul. I know she will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
