Kay Watson

February 15, 1934 ~ May 28, 2023
Kay Watson, 89, Monrovia, passed away peacefully at home May 28, 2023, in the comfortable and familiar surroundings in which she raised her family and had resided for 70 years. While Kay was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on February 15, 1934, she lived in many towns across the country as a young person because of her father’s work as a newspaper publisher. After settling in Mooresville, Kay graduated from Mooresville High School in 1952 and married the late David R. Watson on June 20, 1952.
In addition to being a farmer’s wife and raising her family of six boys, she was the friendly, capable, and efficient receptionist at Citizens Bank’s Main Branch for 24 years, retiring in 2012. Kay was a strong Christian and an active and loyal member of the Monrovia Christian Church. While David mowed the grass at the church for years, Kay ensured that the church was always clean and presentable for its members. Learning from her mother-in-law, she was an excellent cook, and her family fondly remembers some of her signature recipes like homemade cinnamon rolls, fried chicken, and macaroni and cheese. David’s all-time favorite meal was Kay’s chicken & dumplings. Kay’s memory will be treasured by her loving family and many friends.
In addition to her parents and David, she was preceded in death by sons, Jack, James, and Ted Watson; a brother, Keith Bennett.
Survivors include her sons, Jay (Rori), Roy (Rhonda), and Neal (Melissa) Watson; brother, Kent (Donna) Bennett; sister-in-law, Marjorie Bennett; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.

I remember when I started my Training at Citizens Main Office. Kay always had a sweet smile on her face and always said hello or goodbye to me each day I was there. Or when I was working either at the White Lick branch or the Brooklyn branch and had to call the Main Office for something, Kay answered and she would ask how I was doing before she transferred my call. She just had a way of making you feel like she cared about you. She was a very special lady and was loved by soo many people from the Bank and Church. She will sure be missed by all of us. I will pray for Kay’s family that God will give them Peace. My love to you all.

Jay and Rori, Roy and Rhonda, Neal and Melissa, Kent and Donna, Marjorie, and families;
We are saddened to learn of Kay’s passing. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Kay was a very nice lady and a true Christian. We were introduced to Kay and Dave by my sister Marietta (Mark) Cecil and her late husband Kenny. We first met Kay in 1996 while she was working at the bank and was very helpful. We last saw Kay at my sister’s 90th birthday party in October 2018 at the church. May God grant you His peace and comfort.

Our hearts are broken again, but they are celebrating together again. They were two of the greatest people we have ever known in our lives. We send you love and comfort in this time of sadness. May peace and comfort cover you all and may the amazing memories that you all have of Kay and David soften the pain in your hearts. Earth will miss Kay’s beautiful smile and the kindest soul anyone could have ever known. Hard to talk about one without talking about the other because they were truly one and we love them so very much. Our greatest sympathy to you all. Jeff and Cassie (Lehr) Benefield
My mother, Phyliss Bernard, thought the world of Kay and always enjoyed hosting her when “the girls” got together at one of Mom’s luncheons. Seeing the photo of Jeannie and Kay brought back a lot of warm memories of the times they all laughed and reminisced. May you rejoice with your Heavenly friends and may God bless your family. Thank you for being a friend.
