Keith R. Hill

Keith R. Hill, 86, a longtime resident of Mooresville, passed peacefully at his home on July 11, 2024. He was born in Bloomington on August 29, 1937, to the late Merle and Stella (Burk) Hill. Keith graduated from Bloomington High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from Hanover College and was named Most Valuable Player on the baseball team and Most Valuable Lineman and Captain of the football team. Keith was inducted into the Hanover College Hall of Fame. After graduating, Keith was drafted into the United States Navy for two years. He entered the workforce briefly before earning his master’s degree in counseling from Indiana University. 

In 1961, Keith accepted the positions as Biology teacher, Varsity Wrestling, and Assistant Football coach at Mooresville High School. In 1964, Keith became the Head Wrestling, Head Football, and Head Baseball coach. He coached the first winning season in football at Mooresville in 21 years. Keith later served as Athletic Director and Student Counselor. He retired in 1997 after teaching for 34 years at Mooresville High School. In 2005 he was inducted into the Mooresville Athletic Hall of Fame.

Keith was a member of Mt. Gilead Church for over 30 years, and also a member of the Mooresville Park Board when the park first opened. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Colt’s football and IU basketball. Keith spent much of his time at the family lake cabin where he loved to fish and mushroom hunt. Above all, Keith’s greatest passion was spending time with his family. His kind and loving nature will be missed by those who knew him. 

Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Bowman) Hill, whom he married in 1958; daughter, Dawn Reynolds; sons, Randy Hill (wife, Janet) and Toby Hill (wife, Amy); grandchildren, Chelsea Reynolds, Kyler Reynolds, Sydnie Hill, Baleigh Hill, Cassandra Mansfield (husband, Walker), Sarah Hill, and Jonathan Hill; sisters, Janet Smith, and Elaine Pryor; as well as his beloved puppy, Petey. 

Keith is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Michalares; and son-in-law, Michael Reynolds. 

Honoring Keith’s wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held on July 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Mt. Gilead Church in Mooresville.

  1. Coach Hill meant so much to me and many others. His coaching was so important in my career and undoubtedly directed me to the coaching career I have today. Coach Ramey, Coach Johnson, and Coach Hill were my mentors. I had close relationships with them all long after high school. God bless you coach and thank you for all your contributions to my life. I am sad but know you have been a gift.

  4. Mr. Hill was so kind and fun spirited. I thank him for being a positive light for me in High School. My heart goes out to his loved ones. He was a gem.

  5. I loved Mr. Hill. I had him in class and then he also taught driver’s ed. I don’t know how he stood it with me, but we made it through it sending condolence to the family Mr. Hill you will always be missed and loved.

  6. Mr Hill was one of those teachers that I was proud to have had. His life was a shining light in this dark world of a life that was well lived. Sincere condolences to all his family. Thanks for sharing him with so many kids that needed a mentor like him. He will be never forgotten.

  8. Mr. Hill was inspirational teacher who taught me freshman Biology in 1961/62. He was my favorite teacher.

  9. I played football for coach Hill and we have been good friends ever since. He was a great mentor for me while I played football in high school.

  10. I’ll remember Keith as a fellow Mooresville H.S. and Hanover College Hall of Fame member, a fellow co-worker at Mooresville High School, a fellow member of Mt. Gilead Church and a close friend. Rest in Peace Keith.
