Martha H. Newkirk

Martha H. Newkirk, 86, Plainfield, passed away October 14, 2021. Mrs. Newkirk was born August 6, 1935, in Greencastle, to the late Jacob and Thelma (Koessler) Hirt. She married William Newkirk on August 15, 1953, and he preceded her in death in 2006.

She and Bill were the co-owners of BG Trucking for 40 years and also Newkirk Trucking until 2006. Martha loved cross-stitching and was an animal lover. She enjoyed all kinds of animals, but was especially fond of dogs, horses, and birds. An avid reader, Martha also enjoyed any opportunity to spend time with her family. The ultimate matriarch, she was fiercely loyal to her children and grandchildren. Martha will be fondly remembered for her kind and loving nature and her unconditional love for family.

In addition to her parents and Bill, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob and Louie Hirt.

Survivors include her children, Beth Newkirk, Bill (Mary) Newkirk, Kay (Ed) Cunningham, and Craig Newkirk; sister, Avery Wampler; 8 grandchildren; a host of great great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

Martha’s Life Celebration® visitation and service will be held at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. High Street, Mooresville. Services will begin at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021, with visitation prior from 12 Noon. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
