Michael M. McAughey, Sr.
September 8, 1957 ~ April 27, 2016
Michael M. McAughey, Sr., 58, of Mooresville, passed away April 27, 2016. Those Close to Mike knew of his health concerns, but were sad to see such a vibrant and humorous man pass. Mike was born to his beloved late mother, Oral VonLinsowe-McAughey, and late father, John McAughey. His beloved wife, three children, six grandchildren, a fluffy dog and a cat survive him.
After high school, Mike and his brother, Johnboy, joined the Marine Corps; however, Johnyboy lost his life before commencing boot camp. The six years of Mike's enlistment created and formed his notable morals and work ethic. Mike was in the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, which enable him to develop the skills to work on Air Force One as well as an aircraft for the King of Saudi Arabia. Mike was steadfast in his love for his family and never begrudged them the three jobs he worked to support their upbringing. Mike later worked at Home Depot, traveling and managing several locations; after 12 years his health led him to a career change. Together, with his wife of seven years Kathleen, they opened USA American Heroes. The store better allowed him to share his love of the Marine Corps with old and new friends. Mooresville will remember him as the good Marine with the flags in the back of his truck.
Family and friends will gather to remember the life of Mike McAughey from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mooresville. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Mike's family to help offset funeral expenses; envelopes will be provided at the church. Going to miss you cousin. RIP
A memory, I cannot choose just one as they all come back as a flood. Such a wonderful, loving man; a faithful family man who loves his beautiful wife so very much, a faithful friend who made everyone feel welcome at church and in his home. My daughter was so nervous about her first visit to our church. She told me afterwards that Mike made her anxiety over meeting so many strangers just go away. Mike really made an impression on a nervous teenager. Mike made an impression on everyone he met. Always a gentleman, always a Marine. Rest easy Marine. We will take the watch from here. Semper Fi!
You will always be remembered as a kind gentleman who loved the Lord and was an integral part oh our church!
Daddy I will forever miss you :'(
I’ve known Mike for about 5 years, visiting him at his shop and being a Marine, our conversations were light and serious, many a National Security problem or world dilemma was solved while watching Bonanaza or The Rifleman. Semper Fidelis Mike.
Mike is my brother in law and fellow Marine! I miss you brother. He lived across the street from us and the guy was so independent he refused help with the lawn and other stuff. Even thru all that suffering he did what nobody would have done in his condition. When he came into my life thru Kathy I knew I would have a life long friend! All I can say is never take for granted any body you are related to. When things like this happen you wish that you had done more with him.
Kathleen, I’m so sorry your time with such a wonderful husband was cut so short. But, I’m thankful for the story you told me about when you were about to give your heart to Mike and I know that I know, the two of you will meet again in heaven, that story helped me pick a card for you. Though I only met Mike a couple of times, I was impressed by him and his love and care for you. May God bless as you and your family grieve such a fine man and Marine. Semper Fi Mike.
I am so sorry I cannot be there to pay my respects. Mike was like another father to me growing up. Considering how much time I spent at their house, you probably could have claimed me on taxes. He never hesitated to let us know we were doing something stupid followed by probably saying yes anyway. He worked so hard for his family that he so fiercely loved. I know he was so proud of you guys. He was truly a great man, and man he will be missed.
As God knows and asI know you are to be married only once. You fell off the marriage wagon Mike therefore I could no longer take and hide the thing’s you decided to do. You & I was married 25yrs, we had three wonderful beautiful children together I shall love you for the rest of my life. You moved from Michigan to become a couple again instead you decided to go back to your old ways of having other relationships while being with me at the same time that I cannot forgive you for . My Lord tells me I must and for that reason alone I do. No matter what you’ll always have a special place in my life and heart. May you find peace within God Amen Kelly McAughey
