Nita C. Raikes, age 78, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014. Born December 8, 1935, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Orpha (Long) Atwell. Her husband, Bobby Raikes; her brother, Steve Atwell; and grandson, Eric Raikes also preceded her in death.
Nita operated Raikes Upholstery for over 20 years. She loved to fish, doing stained glass, clogging, crocheting, sewing and talking on the phone with her sisters. She also was a member of New Life Christian Church.
Survivors include her children: Robert (Kathy) Raikes; Lianne Watkins; Sandy (Otis) Reisner; Jerri Raikes; her brothers: Ralph (Geneva) Atwell; Tim (Debbie) Atwell; her sisters: Libby (Jay) Cox; Judy (Norman) Pike; Cathy (Ron) Kingsbury; Linda Atwell; Gay Atwell; 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Don Endsley on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, with calling to begin at 1:00 p.m. You may visit www.carlislebranson.com where you may share a memory with the family or sign the guest book.

  1. as my grandma she has been a nice sweet grandma. i remember when papa bob first died it broke our heart! now that she is dead i pray and pray for her on and on until i cry. now i live in jeffersonville indiana with my dad,step mom, and my 2 brothers. zoey my sister has been asking me who was papaw bob and i always tell her and aizlyn gene allen was just not born yet when he died!:(now i am 10 years old and i wish i knew more about both of them. your great great grand child, ZAYNAH COLLEEN JONES

  9. I am so glad that I got to spend some time with Aunt Nita at Christmas, and very sorry I won’t be able to be back for her service. I will always remember all the fun times we had hanging out at her house (with all the cousins!) and just being ‘family’.   10. I enjoyed knowing Nita through her daughter Sandy. It brought me great pleasure to know that Nita enjoyed the cakes I baked for her (White Cake, Pineapple Filling, & Cream Cheese Frosting-her favorite)! She was such a sweet, kind woman and she always called me ‘The Cake Girl’. I will miss you Nita! Sandy, know that I am praying for you and your family. You know that the staff at Mooresville loves ya!!!
