Norvel Lee “Bud” Kinder, 90, of Franklin (previously of Aurora), went onto his Heavenly home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Compass Park at The Indiana Masonic Home. He was born in Aurora, Indiana on April 30, 1935 to the late Gilbert Webster Kinder and Stella Mae (Duttlinger) Kinder.
Bud graduated from Aurora High School with class of 1955. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He married Pauline Tarter on October 24, 1975; She preceded him in passing on August 3, 2020.
A member of the Masonic Aurora Lodge #51 for over 50 years, Bud embraced the principles of brotherhood and community throughout his life. As a dedicated automotive teacher at the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles, he instilled skills and values in countless students, shaping the future generation with a hands-on approach to learning.
Known for his adventurous spirit, Bud was a passionate outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. His enthusiasm for nature and the adventures it offered brought joy not only to his life but to the lives of those around him. Bud was also known for his humor and lighthearted whit, always making those around him smile.
He is survived by his loving family including his son, Steven (wife, Pam) Kinder; brother, Jerry “Bo” (wife, Barbara) Kinder; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline “Polly” Kinder; parents, Gilbert and Stella Kinder; and sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Howard Lostutter.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, March 21st at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church Aurora, 6060 Blair Road, Aurora, IN. In keeping with Bud’s wishes, his earthly remains will be cremated and laid to rest in Miller Cemetery in Shelbyville. Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
