Patricia “Patty” Hamilton

May 3, 1958 ~ March 18, 2025

Patricia “Patty” Hamilton, 66, of Mooresville, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on March 18th, 2025. Born May 3, 1958 to Alma “Sue” Knopf and the late James W Smith.

She was raised on the Southwest side of Indy, Patty was a devoted daughter, wife, mom, “Grams,” sister and a treasured friend to many. On October 27, 1978, Patty married the love of her life, Daryl Hamilton, beginning a journey marked by laughter, adventure, and an unbreakable bond. Together, they built a beautiful family, and Patty took immense pride in being a mom and “Grams” beyond compare. She is survived by her three children: Ricky (Christina) Hamilton, Lisa (Lucas) Lykins, and Michael (Sheila) Hamilton. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Darien, Katelyn (Andrew), Allison, Markus, Katey, Liviah, Lyric, and Maliyah. Also survived by her mother Sue Knopf and sisters.

Patty had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life. She loved riding her motorcycle — and made it clear that Daryl was never to ride hers! Her heart found joy in family gatherings, gardening, and being near the water, a passion she passed on to her loved ones. The vast beauty of the West held a special place in her heart, especially Sedona, Arizona. She’s known for her welcoming kitchen and bountiful feasts; Patty’s home was a sanctuary for many.

For many years, Patty devoted herself to raising her children before working as a courier for Yes Express. She later found her calling with Mooresville Schools, where she dedicated 21 years, starting in the kitchen and retiring as a beloved bus driver. Every child who rode her bus or crossed her path knew the warmth of her heart, and many considered her their extra mom.

Patty was a leader and a pillar in her family. She lived life on her own terms — a free spirit who couldn’t be rushed or reined in. Her laughter, love, and influence will remain etched in the hearts of those she loved.

The family will host a celebration of Patty’s remarkable life will be held Thursday March 27th, 2025, at Charity Church, 2700 South Tibbs Ave, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation begins at 5:30 p.m. and Celebration Service starts at 7:00 p.m.
