Phyllis Jean Scott
95, of Mooresville, passed away on December 27, 2025 at home. Phyllis was born on November 10, 1930 in Mooresville, Indiana to the late George “Red” Freeland Spoon and Orpha Mae (Clarkston) Spoon.

Phyllis worked as a cashier for Kroger’s, retiring as head cashier after 38 years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling with the “Golden Girls” from Kroger’s to eight different states, including, Florida, Hawaii and Canada. In her younger years, she was a talented tap dancer and gave lessons. She will be remembered as a caring, loving person, who didn’t know any strangers and was always willing to help anyone in need.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Grace Spoon, Add Clarkston, Effie (Cummins) Clarkston, her husband, Loshell Scott and a grandson Isaiah Scott.
She is survived by her children Rhonda Culbertson (Richard)of Lafayette, Mark Scott (Paula), Timothy Scott, Tamara Standeford all of Mooresville; grandchildren Mark Scott, Mindy Hibbert, Matt Culbertson, Jan Michael Scott, Shamus Scott, Michael Culbertson, Lindsay Rozzel, Haley Standeford; great grandchildren Mariah, Payton, Makenzie, Gracie, Tal, Ellie, Grey, Hazel, Roman, Jocelyn, Jayden, Addie, Bella, Jolie, Laine, Zane, Addison, and great-great grandchildren Avery, Dallas, Gavin, Kambrie, Kinsley, Khloe, Jannon, Layne and Layla.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 2:00pm at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Waverly, (IOOF Cemetery).

  4. Jean was the sweetest lady—such a kind cashier at Kroger’s for 38 years per obituary. Her daughter Rhonda & my sister, Brenda Andrews Whitnah, are good friends. They graduated together in the great class of 1967. Of course, the class of 1970 was the best. 🤣
    Jean enjoyed a wonderful life.

  6. So very sorry for your loss of your (Mom) Jean. She was the sweetest lady I’ve ever known!! I worked with her at Kroger, and even after she had retired I’d stop by the house when I could to visit with her. Loved our chats on the phone also!
