Robert A. Newman

Robert A. Newman, 79, Mooresville, passed away January 24, 2018, in Franciscan Health, Indianapolis. Bob was born October 5, 1938, in Miami County, to the Robert Ray and Bessie (Eckelbarger) Newman.
He graduated from Clay Township High School in Peru, where he excelled as in basketball, baseball, and running track. Bob served in the United States Army and met his future wife, Laura Hernandez, while being stationed in Texas. He spent his career in heavy equipment and construction. He worked for Hurst Construction and for many years at Bowen Engineering as a general superintendent. To stay busy after his retirement from Bowen, he became the owner and operator of Newmco Construction. An avid coon hunter and outdoorsman, he was the past president of the Ace Coon Club. Bob had a slightly competitive streak and enjoyed winning euchre and ping pong. He was a fine and well respected fixture in Mooresville who will be fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dave Newman; brother, William Newman; sister, Sharon Spangler.
Survivors include his wife, Laura (Hernandez) Newman, to whom he was united in marriage November 10, 1963; daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Copp of Mooresville and Sherry (Curtis Wilson) Libertore; brother, Mike Newman of Peru; sister, Jo Ellen Ivester of Georgia; grandchildren, Zachary Gray, Logan Gray, and Kaci Libertore; great grandchildren, Alexis, Bailee, Dezarea, Mia, and Delanee.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Bob Newman on Monday, January 29, 2018, 4 to 7 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Waverly. LAURA, so sorry to learn of bobs passing. talked to jack stodgell last week and he told me. i have many many good memories with bob when we were young. spent more time with him than anyone i have had as a friend. “pete” and i mentioned you both frequently and wish we would have done something about it now. fond memories, laura, love you. ron & pete reed
