Robert (Bob) Flake, 83 of Plainfield, IN, went to be with His Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 27, 2017, being loved, cared for, and surrounded by his family. Bob was born December 18, 1933 in Indianapolis, IN, to Raymond and Katherine Flake.
Bob graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1952 and attended Purdue University studying mechanical engineering. He was drafted and served in the Army from 1956-1958 being stationed in Germany. Upon return from his military service to his nation, Bob began work at the Allison Division of General Motors working as a Tool Designer for 39 years retiring as a Senior Tool Designer in 1992. It was a profession he truly enjoyed his entire career. Prior to marrying in January 1959, he and his wife became members of Ben Davis Christian Church and held their membership all of their life together. For many years, Bob enjoyed the fellowship and lunch served at the Mooresville Senior Center~~being crowned Valentine’s King and Queen with Barb in 2013.
Due to his enthusiasm for collecting guns of all kinds, he was a Lifetime member of the NRA, the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, the American Single Shot Rifle Association, and the Marion County Conservation Club. Bob also enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending auctions, and spending time with friends in his garage~~his happy place. He will be cherished most importantly for his lifelong dedication to his wife, his 2 daughters and grandchildren, his endless patience, and love for his country and fellow man.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara (Taylor); daughters, Kimberly Flake and Lori Fulford; grandson, Darren (Janelle) Fulford; granddaughter, Lindsay (Ian) Hornak); great grandchildren, Corbin, Declan, Quinn, Evalyn, and Lilyan.
