Robert Smith

January 9, 1936 ~ March 3, 2025

Born in: Perrysville, Indiana
Resided in: Mooresville, Indiana

Robert “Bob” Smith, 89, of Mooresville, went to be with his Lord on March 3, 2025, at The Gathering Together in Plainfield. He was born in Perrysville, Indiana on January 9, 1936, to the late Fred James and Rachel Marie (Lewsader) Smith. Bob graduated from Perrysville High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Navy the same year. He was a Boatswain’s Mate First Class (BM1) in charge of piping in the higher officials on the ship. Bob was proud of his military service and retired in 1975.

After serving his country for 21 years, Bob attended a trade school for computer programming. He was an over-the-road truck driver for the State of Indiana Department of Administration for many years, hauling federal surplus. Bob retired in 2005 and enjoyed the following years spent with family.

Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 103 and an active member of Life Line Baptist Church in Camby. He enjoyed participating in the senior friends’ group at church.

Having grown up on a farm, Bob’s love for farming continued throughout his life. He especially loved vintage tractors, collecting farm equipment, and attending tractor pulls. Camping, painting slot cars, working jigsaw puzzles, and listening to southern gospel music occupied much of his free time. Most importantly, Bob loved spending time with his family.

Bob leaves behind his wife, Mary (McBride) Smith, whom he married on March 2, 1956; sons, Stephen D. Smith (Alice) and Douglas L. Smith (Joetta) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Jared S. Smith (Amanda), Justin D. Smith (Christina), and Callie R. Smith; great-grandchildren, Olivia N. Smith, Titus J. Smith, Abigial R. Smith, Zachary D. Smith, Rowan C. Smith, and Cainan S. Smith.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother, James L. Smith; and sister, Lois E. Smith.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, March 6th from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 pm at Life Line Baptist Church, 13387 N Slideoff Rd, Camby, IN 46113.  Bob’s Life Celebration® Service will immediately follow, beginning at 2:00 pm at the church.  Bob’s earthly remains will be cremated, and he will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Columbarium Annex. Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville has been entrusted with his arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Ministry at Life Line Baptist Church.
