Sandra K. Hewitt, 83, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at Franciscan Health Mooresville.
Born on August 11, 1942, in Indianapolis, Sandy was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Helen Wellington. She graduated from Washington High School and went on to build a life centered on love, family, and community.
On May 25, 1963, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Hewitt. Together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2021. Their bond was one of devotion and adventure. They especially enjoyed camping at Coal City Wildlife and Game Preserve and traveling the open road on their beloved Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. They made several treasured memories together.
Sandy had a vibrant spirit and a wide range of interests. For 20 years, she was a talented line dance instructor at the Moose and VFW in Greenwood, where she formed lasting friendships and brought joy to many through music and movement. She enjoyed flying remote control airplanes, bowling in her league, and expressing her creativity through crafts—especially sewing Christmas tree skirts and stockings for those she loved. She never missed her favorite programs on the Game Show Network and delighted in simple pleasures like having her hair and nails done. Most recently, Sandy loved taking cruises and traveling the open sea.
Above all, Sandy treasured her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and took every opportunity to gather with those she loved. She was caring, kind-hearted, and welcomed everyone with warmth and generosity. Her gentle spirit and loving heart touched all who knew her.
Sandy’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Survivors include her children; Cheryl Craig and Michael (Maria) Hewitt; grandchildren, Makayla (Chris) Asher, Cody (Ashley) Hewitt, James (Arrianna) Craig, Kyle Hewitt, and Sage Schofield; great-grandchildren, Kaylin Schultheis, Madilynn and Jaila Melton, Corbin, Colton, Kinley, Madison, and Lillianna Asher, and Harper Hewitt.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenny Hewitt; son, Jeffery Hewitt; and brother, Lawrence Shirley.
