Sharon Rose Courtney
80, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 27, 2025, at home. Sharon was born on August 18, 1944, in Covington, Kentucky to the late Henry F. and Helen M. (Beck) Heidel.

Sharon’s dedication to helping others was unmatched as she worked in the library, transportation department, and as a teacher’s aide for Decatur Township Schools for many years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of Bridgeport Baptist Church. She enjoyed art, painting, gardening, reading, hiking, collecting antiques, going to water class with her friends, and spending time with family and friends. Sharon was truly one of kind! Known to her grandchildren as “Catnip Grandma”, she will be remembered for her loving, generous, and kind hearted, and someone who would help anyone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands Francis “Bud” Lachmann, Don Courtney; grandchildren, Jessica Lachmann and Matthew Lachmann.

She is survived by her sons David (Hope) Lachmann, Eric Lachmann; brothers Eugene (Linda) Heidel, Jeffrey (Sue) Heidel; grandchildren Cassie (Blake) Foy, Courtney (Ethan Dunse) Brooks; great-grandchildren Heartley Brooks, Winston Brooks, Dallas Brooks, Lorelai Foy, Kiptyn Foy; nieces and nephews Rick Heidel, Susan Lacy, Gretchen King, Jared Heidel, Tyler Heidel; and her special cousin Marelene (Jack) Koester.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Sharon’s life on Monday, June 2nd from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, with services beginning at 3:00pm in the funeral home. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated following the services and her urn will be placed in Fairfield Friends Cemetery, Camby.

  1. I have loved Sharon since the day I met her. She is definitely one of a kind. Her heart for those in need was huge. She worked in the clothes closet, food pantry and Christmas toy give away with us. Even thru all her treatments, she still showed up. Her love for her family was beautiful and amazing. I’m going to miss my friend so much. Not too many people get so lucky to have had such a good neighbor, friend and sister in Christ. I’ll see her again in heaven, that I know for sure. RiP Sharon.   2. Sharon was such a beautiful example of what a person could be. Caring, friendly, having strength and dignity yet warm and always willing to help. There will be a huge hole in water class. May we all remember her love and her bright smile. May we strive to be like her.
