Shirley Johnson of Mooresville, IN passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home July 30th, 2025, with his family by his side. He was a member of Eternal Life Baptist Church in Mooresville. He now resides in his Heavenly home. He preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Johnson.
He was born on July 24th, 1935, in Liberty, KY, to the late Pina Johnson and Franklin Cox. He always enjoyed playing his guitar and even played in a band in his earlier years. He was a good and loving Husband and Father, a good provider, and loved his family very much and was always there for them.
He started out rebuilding armatures, starter, and generators and later became a construction worker and operated heavy machinery. Also, he was a mechanic and was promoted to his Company’s Mechanic shop where he kept up on all mechanical issues regarding company trucks and other vehicles and on the job construction equipment. He was skilled in paint, body and fender work on all types of vehicles. He loved working on cars, trucks and tractors and he often would do repairs for other people just to help them out. He loved being outside in the summer months cutting his grass, planting, and working in his garden and canning. He loved messing around in the garage doing little odds and end things. He loved to cook, and he loved to bake pies, cakes, apple rolls, etc.
Survivors include his four children: Pam Walton (Chuck), Stu Johnson (Pam), Kenneth Johnson (Debbie) and Shannon Kaiser (Raoul). He has six grandchildren: Angelique, Jenny, Devan, Braydon, Carleigh, Mackenzi. Six great grandchildren/ Vadah, Curt, John, Kyler, Brayden, Ryah, three brothers: Ron Cox of Liberty, Joe Cox of Liberty and Fairley Cox of Liberty and three sisters: Rose Gillock of Liberty, Gail Reid of Hustonville and Geneva King of IN.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and spouse was seven brothers: Garnett, Lemuel, Ottis, Ed, Elgie Hardin and Billy Ray Cox and six sisters: Mossie Wilson, Georgia Garcia, Ike Atwood, Roxie Cochran, Pina Pemberton and Limmie Peyton.
Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 6th, 2025, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday August 6th, 2025, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Brent Huggins officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Grove Cemetery.
Local arrangements are being handled by Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory.

Papaw always had such a happy presence, his laugh was always a favorite sound to hear. My absolute favorite memory of papaw was when we both went to get pizza together, and he told me we were headed to Pizza Hut…he then pulled into Pizza King. Turns out he called the Pizza King in Mooresville Pizza Hut. I’ve never seen it differently since.

I’VE known Cuz around 40 years. He was a thoughtful man, smart, proud of his family. He was always ready to offer a helping hand. He will be missed. Doug
