Teresa Ann Stogsdill Mitchell, 66, transitioned into her children and grandchildrens’ guardian angel on 7/19/25. It was her dad’s birthday, in heaven. She lived graciously and courageously with multiple myeloma until the very end. She was born on 4/29/1959, to Mary Jane and Rev. Claude Stogsdill, who were waiting at the pearly gates for her, with arms wide open. Her baby grandson, Quinn, was also placed into her arms, and she probably still hasn’t put him down.
Teresa was one of six children. When she was interested in something she put her whole heart into it. The first thing being her love for Jesus. She was a member of Kirklin Christian Church and Traders Point Christian Church. She volunteered with her churches and enjoyed praise team and her church groups, especially all the friends she made. Friends stated: “She led our small group with commitment and love” & “She was such a genuine person and always such a joy to see at church.”
Teresa was a lover of all animals. She retired as a veterinary technician and continued to foster with the Indianapolis Animal Shelter. Growing up with Mom, you never knew what new animal was waiting for you at home to meet, and we loved “take your kid to work” days. Mom fed the birds, every outside cat on the planet, and even the raccoons, who would try to steal the cat food. She would “shoo” them away, but then throw them left over dinner or chips.
Teresa graduated from Warsaw High School, and was a mother to four kids. She was the epitome of a mom and always had dinner on the table for the family every night, after working 40 hours a week. If she wasn’t with her kids at church, she was taking us to school events, showing us family traditions, and the importance of being a good person. Even as adult children, she was there for every one of us—no wait, no thinking, right there—whenever any of us needed her. A friend said, “She greatly reflected love, joy, blessings, and sweet friendship.” She encouraged her family and friends to never give up and to always find their strength, even when you didn’t think you had it.
Mom has always shown strength and independence, and has instilled that fiery tenacity within her children and grandchildren. She didn’t wait or expect anyone to help her with anything, and would be seen carrying things into the home, even when she shouldn’t be, or fixing things she had no business fixing, with YouTube tutorial videos in the background.
Mom loved home decor, decorating the home for every holiday, watching HGTV for ideas, and keeping up with her classic farmhouse style.
Becoming a grandmother was something written in stone for her, because how else can you become a better mom than she already was?! Becoming a grandmother, of course. If you wanted to see Teresa’s biggest, purest smile, it would be when her six grandchildren were in her arms. They were her pride and joy. Nothing could keep her away from her grandchildren, not even cancer. Teresa showed up with a walker in tow to their events, even when she didn’t like her short hair, or even if she had a bad health day.
Teresa loved to scrapbook the beautiful moments of her grandchildren in her spare time, as well as be amongst flowers at her home. She had a green thumb, like her father, and neighbors would comment on how beautiful her flowers were in Kirklin. She had a giving spirit and donated monthly to different charities. She would premake pb&j sandwiches to give to the homeless when she went downtown. Teresa would keep a bag of cat food in her trunk, for when she found stray cats out on her journeys. She loved hosting events, attending family gatherings, and buying her friends & family gifts. Teresa was a wonderful cook and there was nothing like “mom’s home cooking” to soothe your soul.
Teresa’s love for Jesus was apparent to everyone she met. “God’s Spirit has lived within you, guided you, and led you throughout your life. As your friends & family, we have seen evidence of this.” Her last few days, her voice became raspy and quiet. The day before her journey to heaven, her granddaughter, Kaia, told her through tears, “God is ready for you.” And with a clear, louder voice, Teresa nodded and replied, “He is.”
Enjoy it mom. You deserve it.

I was heartbroken to hear about the passing of your mother. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.
There are few words that can truly ease the pain of losing someone so dear but during this time of sorrow, I hope you feel surrounded by love—both from those nearby and those who are holding you in their hearts from afar. May the beautiful moments and memories you shared bring peace and light in the difficult days ahead.
Please know that I am thinking of you and your entire family.
I am truly sorry for your loss. What an amazingly beautiful woman inside and out. To live and fight chronic illness is no easy task. However she did so with grace and love pouring into others and leaving a legacy behind. Erica you have your mother’s heart and grace and I pray for God to bring you all comfort and peace in this difficult time.

After reading the memorial obituary, I’m sure heaven is a little sweeter with her entrance….
