James Junior Knox, 69, of Monrovia, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of their home on Sunday, December 10, 2023. He was born on June 10, 1954 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky to James William Knox and the late Mary Evelyn (Harper) Knox.
He was a hardworking man dedicated to caring for his family and others. He worked several jobs over the years including being a heavy equipment mechanic for his father’s business, Knox Equipment. He most recently retired from Ray’s Trash Service where he worked as a mechanic.
James married the love of his life, Rhonda Gail Hunt, on April 8, 1978. The couple has enjoyed over 45 years of marriage. The entire family enjoyed drag racing and go-kart racing. James was a talented woodworker as well. He was a simple man that enjoyed life to the fullest. He found joy in all the little moments that some might not take the time to appreciate. Many may recall, he was always quick with a sarcastic statement or response.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his loving family and friends including his wife, Rhonda Knox of Monrovia; father, James Knox of Clayton; sons, Levi (wife, Casey) Knox of Martinsville and Lance (wife, Lydia) Knox of Martinsville; daughter, Lacey (husband, George) Cox of Monrovia; sister, Elizabeth (husband, Mac) McMurray of Franklin; and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Knox; sons, Lester Knox and Nick Knox; and sister, Donna Kerr.
Mr. Knox’s earthly remains have been cremated. The family will host a celebration of life on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Monrovia Festival Building, 50 Walnut Street, Monrovia. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory in Mooresville.
