Debra Irene Smith
57, of Carmel, passed away on October 17, 2020 due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Debra was born on August 20, 1963 in Anderson, Indiana to the late Miriam McElroy and Gene Bowen.

Debra worked at Meijers in Carmel for several years in pricing and cosmetics. Her children and her grandchildren were her life. She lived to spoil the grandkids. She will be remembered for her homemade chicken and noodles and pumpkin bread. She also enjoyed riding Harley’s and going to the beaches of Florida, every opportunity that she could.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson Gunnar DeFord.

She is survived by her daughters Erica DeFord, Ashley Chase, Victoria Carter; brothers Lonny, Tim, Danny Bowen; her grandchildren who were her heart and soul, Austin, Ava and Ashton Jarrell, McKenzie Chase, Jack and Olivia Carter, Avery, Kinley, Charley and Maverick DeFord as well as many cousins and extended family and friends.

Services are private.

  1. I remember going to Hiawatha with you north side and Anderson high til you joined the army. If I knew you were gonna leave my house that nite I could of tryed to get your keys I’m so sorry I let you down. I love you til the end for me I’m so devastated
