I love you dad.
I remember playing with Sherri when you were driving your police car – I was crossing the street to go home and you got on that bullhorn thing and said … get out of the street! Scared the pants off of me. So much fun going to Missouri.
I’ll never forget the farm. Every week end I was coming out and helping him. I loved riding on the tractor with him. I will miss you dearly uncle Leroy. My thoughts and prayers are with ALL of you girls. Stay strong just knowing that he is with his love Aunt Bobbi Back together again!!!ߒ
My biggest memory is when you moved to camby and I spent the night and you took me home in your police car with sirens and going about 80mph. That was the best ride ever. You raised the sweetest and kindest daughters. You will be missed.
One time at breakfast I was on to him about taking his medicine. and that he cannot just not take it because he doesn’t feel like it or want to. He says, “You are just as demanding and stubborn as your mother.” I said, “and I wonder who we both got it from?!” We both laughed and laughed. I love you Pappaw♥️♥️♥️
Once, shortly after Gerald and I got married, I got mad at Gerald and I walk to my dad and mom’s house (about 2 miles),. When I got there and explained I was mad at Gerald, my dad said sometimes you have to hurt your kids to help them, then he told me to go home. I asked for a ride and he said no. By the time I got home. I wasn’t mad at Gerald anymore, but dad on the other hand. Lol
I remember the many times we came to your home, you always made us feel like part of your family. You and I always drank our special “ milk” at Christmas. Thank you so much for your generosity and warm hospitality! You are missed, Leroy. Kathy Jones
One year on mothers day when I was a single mother my dad bought me flowers from Brandy and Clay because they were to little. It was so special to me. I loved it and will never forget it.
Like most days, I went to work with Papaw at Tanks and like most days we went to the Diner that was across the street for lunch. I would order the grilled cheese every time. One day, as we were cashing out I seen a roll of strawberry mentos that they sold near the cash register. I wanted it, I wanted it something fierce. I looked up at papaw with big eyes filled with excitement and asked if I could have it. He said… No, not today… Later, mamaw came and picked me up after she got her running done and we went home. One of two things sometimes both always happened when papaw came home. 1. We would hide and holler “Papaw, come and find us” even tho we pretty much hid in the same spot everyrime. And 2. As papaw would empty his pockets on the counter I would watch to see what neat stuff he collect through his day. This day, he pulled out some papers, some kind of cotter pin and something else.. As I looked at it I wondered if it was for me. It was obviously been in his pocket mist of the day. It was wrinkled and had some of the paper wrapper worn off.. Even smelled like him on the outside. I looked up at him and pointed to the roll of strawberry mentos and asked… Papaw are those for me? He smiled said yes and told me to share with my sister… And I did… A little.
Unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of knowing the great grandfather of my grand children. My first husband Kevin and I got to know him and his wife Barbara through my son and soon to be wife before times stood still for both of us. He was always so pleasant and lovable to others. Never turned his head to be there for others. To all of Mr Dunkins family I send my dearest condolences. May you find peace of mine through these times. Doris Tackett Alan Tackett mother.
I worked with Leroy at IPD . He was a good man . And Officer .
I love seeing all the pictures of our family and how two people came together and loved each other enough to make a family of six, from there the family grew to Grand children and then to great grand children. I love you Dad and I know you’re with the woman you loved your entire life, and I’m happy that you’re together and finally in peace. From the entire Fenwick family.
My name is Donna Freeman. I am Roy’s 2nd cousin. I grew up on Hadley Road. Roy’s Aunt Minnie and Uncle Ernie were my grandparents and they raised me. Funny story. I was dating my boyfriend David Freeman (now my husband of 46 years). He has a classic 64 Chevy Impala Convertible. We were riding together over on Kentucky Avenue. He was going a little too fast. We got pulled over by a police officer. As the officer spoke to David, I finally leaned over and said Hi Roy!!!!David didn’t get a ticket!ߘ
