Cecil R. Lundy

April 27, 1943 ~ September 13, 2018
Cecil Ray Lundy was born on April 27, 1943 in Pennington Gap, Virginia. He joins his Mother Annis and Father Carl along with his brothers, James, Roy, Earl, Robert and Danny in the kingdom of Heaven. He leaves behind brothers Ervin, Everett and Odell and sisters Wanda and Anna Mae.
Cecil also leaves behind the one and only love of his life, celebrating 58 years of marriage, his wife Rita and their five children Barbara (Duane), Ray (Dawn), Patty (Dale), Connie (Randy), and Scott.
Cecil was called Home Thursday, September 13, 2018 with his loving family by his side.
Cecil was a presence. A strong man, dependable and honest. Like a relic of time where men were expected to be the calm center, the stable foundation that weathered the storm and miraculously seemed unaffected by it. He was most happy around his family, from his 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Especially when any of them would sit and watch a Western with him, or anything starring John Wayne. Cecil was many things to many people: a father, a grandfather, a mechanic, a farmer, a musician, a bus driver, a softball coach or simply just a friend. He is remembered as a strong presence, a towering frame which often held life’s treasures in quiet hugs or giddy snuggles with his big bear arms that you just couldn't resist. Soft spoken but vibrantly joyful, the corners of his eyes would sparkle, betraying the amusement through the quickly broken tough guy expressions. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures- solving the problem of a broken down car, the thrill of a great hit, salt in his beer or the peaceful waiting amongst the trees for that double digit pointed buck he knew was just nearby. It is through these moments and the countless others that his loved ones will carry his memory and share his legacy for generations to come.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 16, 2018, 2 to 6 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. I remember Cecil helping farm my dad’s field when I was little, and later working on my vehicles. He was a great man. Prayers for comfort.
