Cheryll Ann (McAninch)(Allman) Howell, 83, passed away peacefully in her home in Mooresville April 8, 2026.
Born at home in Plainfield, IN on July 12, 1942 to the late Ralph P. and Eunice E. (Cooprider) McAninch, she graduated from Plainfield High School in 1960. Continuing her education, she earned her Master’s Degree in Teaching from Indiana State University in 1970. She taught for her entire career in Mooresville: (briefly at Newby Elementary) before spending 35 years as an English teacher at Northwood Elementary School, making a lasting impact on generations of students.
A woman of strong faith and community spirit, Cheryll was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s group. She also held memberships in Order of Eastern Star; ADK, Delta Alpha Gamma and Kappa Kappa Sigma sororities; Bay View book club; and the Class of ’60 lunch group.
Known for her warm smile and sincere laugh, Mom embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. She insisted on staying active and always carried a youthful outlook that endeared her to all who knew her. Cheryll found joy in life’s eclectic pleasures. She enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting. She was known to paint and she loved to drive her 1986 Corvette convertible. Mom was very “house proud” and was continually decorating and redecorating to suit the season and her mood. One never stepped into the same home twice. She cherished time spent with her friends, especially their weekly card games always filled with laughter and companionship. Another highlight of her week were the Sunday after church brunches with Mary. Mom always kept a full calendar. Above all, Cheryll’s heart was filled with love for her family. Her conversations were filled with their stories and her walls are filled with their pictures.
Cheryll will be remembered for her kindness, discipline, dedication and the love she freely shared with her family, friends, students and neighbors. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Survivors include her children Neal (Anna) Allman and Jane Yoder; grandchildren Denton Yoder, Grace Allman and Piper Allman; a special cat named Jasper and several extended family and close friends.
In addition to her parents, Cheryll was preceded in death by, and was welcomed home, by her big brother Fred McAninch and big sister Regina Agan.
Honoring Mom’s wishes, her earthly remains will be cremated. Her family and friends will host a Celebration of Life at the First United Methodist Church in Mooresville on April 26, 2026. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 PM, with a short memorial service at 4.
Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory is entrusted with Cheryll’s arrangements.

She will be missed. God rest her soul.
There are many wonderful memories of when Cheryll, Carrie, Cathy, Marlene, and I were teaching 5th and 6th grades at Northwood. Cheryll always came up with the funniest punch lines to our stories. What a great team! Sending comfort to Neal, Jane, and families.
