Connie J. Poe

Connie J. Poe, 71, Martinsville, died August 5, 2011, in IU Hospital, Martinsville. Mr. Poe was born May 19, 1940, in Morgan County, to the late William Chester and Sadie Cora (Sparks) Poe.
Mr. Poe was a machinist for 15 years for Allison Gas & Turbine, retiring in 1989. He also owned and operated Poe Construction for a number of years. He was a longtime member of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #78. He enjoyed fishing, Western movies, and had one of the most beautiful voices ever. Many people enjoyed listening to him sing through the years. A true survivor, Mr. Poe battled much adversity with his health through the years and was a true inspiration to many.
Mr. Poe was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jean (Dotson) Poe and brothers, Bob Poe and Donnie Poe.
Survivors include his children, Michael Shannon Poe (Christine) of Greenwood and Julie L. Scott (Gregg) of Martinsville; brothers,Bill Poe of Martinsville and Gary Poe of Brooklyn; sisters, Joan 'Jody' Lehr of Paragon, Betty K. Hamilton of Wilbur, and Marla Schoolcraft of Greencastle; grandchildren, Justin, David, Canyon, Abby, MaddiLee, Chelsi, and Brandon.
The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, with calling there from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 8, 2011.
