Cory James Byrnes

Cory James Byrnes, 38, Monrovia, passed away July 20, 2021. Cory was born March 14, 1983, in Martinsville, the youngest child of Judy (Lee) and James G. Byrnes.

Cory attended Newby Elementary School and Mooresville High School with the class of 2002. He was incredibly gifted with a mechanical mind and had a strong work ethic. Cory worked through the years at various gravel pits including Eagle, US Aggregates, Greencycle and Prairie Aggregates. Most recently, he was with Grounds Quality Lawncare. Cory could run or fix any piece of heavy equipment. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, garden, and teach young people how to enjoy these hobbies too, especially his children Corbin, Cadence, and their friends. An animal lover, he was especially fond of his dogs, Tyra, Cooper, and Emma. His natural athleticism developed as he grew into his twenties when he played more basketball, softball, and bowled. Cory was strongly devoted to his family and loved cookouts and family gatherings. He will be fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends for his fun spirit, loyalty, generosity, kindness and loving spirit.

Survivors include his parents, Judy and James Byrnes; children, Corbin and Cadence Byrnes; sisters, Lee Ann (Jeff) Baldridge and Lori Kay (Jeff) Robinson; niece and nephews, Adam, Aaron, and Rylee; best friend and partner; Jenny Shepherd and her girls, Breanna and Madison; his children’s mother, Shannon Byrnes.

Cory’s Life Celebration® Visitation and Service will take place at Gasburg Baptist Church under the direction of Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Visitation is on Friday, July 23, 2021, 4 to 8 p.m., with services beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery.
