Cory Lane

May 8, 1997 ~ May 21, 2013
Cory Lane, 16, of Camby, went to be with our heavenly father on Tuesday, May 21st. He was a sophomore at Plainfield High School. During his middle school years, he was involved in track, cross country, and swimming. He played soccer for many years with the Mooresville Optimist Soccer program and was a certified soccer referee as well. Cory loved nature, being outdoors, mountain biking, four wheelers, roller coasters, Monster trucks, boating, airplanes, the Indianapolis Colts, and extreme motor sports. This past February, Cory was able to meet his idol, freestyle motocross rider, X Games champion, and NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Travis Pastrana. Cory was a member of Mt. Gilead Church of Mooresville, and especially enjoyed VBS, summer camps, and youth retreats. He was baptized with his parents on January 23rd, in front of church members who stood by him during all of his struggles through his battle with Osteosarcoma. As a Riley Kid, who fought Crohn’s Disease and cancer, Cory had many opportunities to inspire others with his smile that could light up a room and put a smile on the face of another child facing a similar battle. He made several public service announcements with former Colts Coach Tony Dungy as part of the Kohl’s Caring For Kids program, and was the Riley Coin Toss Kid on two separate occasions, the second of which included an emotional meeting with cancer survivor, Colts Coach Chuck Pagano. Cory is survived by his mother and father, Carrie and Doug, sister, Katrina (Royal Palm Beach, FL), Grandparents: Charles and Leslie Harvey (Falls Church, VA), Carlita Harvey (Vero Beach, FL), Randal and Lana Berardi (Pekin, IL), Julia Lane (VA) and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends and family will gather on Friday, May 24, 2013, 3 to 8 p.m., in The Church at Mount Gilead, 6019 East State Road 144, Mooresville. The celebration of life service will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, in the church. Cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cory Lane Foundation, c/o The Community Foundation of Morgan County, 56 North Main Street, Martinsville, IN 46151. Envelopes will be available at the services. Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, is handling arrangements. You are in our thoughts & prayers. You raised an amazing young man. The nicest, most polite, friendly, young man we’ve met.We can’t imagine your loss. May you feel God’s love & presence right now. Love to you and your family. Scott & Kathy Gist and family
Cory accomplished so much and touched the lives of more people in 16 years than most do in 80. His spirit and heart are true treassures that will be missed. His smile opened the hearts of others. He always seemed to find a way – even if it just seemed impossible!! To his family and friends – I give you the praise for the love and unconditional support that you surrounded Cory with every day. I know that he is now Begining his journey with his place in Heaven cancer free. My heart goes out to the family as you find your way through this difficult time. Remember Cory is surrounding you now in Love and I hope you can find some peace in the Love that family and friends extend to you. Stay CORYSTRONG!!??? Toni McDonald
Great, great young man. I’ll never forget the emotional meeting at the stadium. God bless Cory and your strong family. Jerry Harbin
May God be with you during this time of sorrow. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Melissa Byrne
How amazing it is the sickest children are the ones with smiles on their faces, fantastic attitudes and are always helping others. I believe God chooses these children to join him prematurely for those reasons. They are very Special to us but more Special to Him. Cory is one of the very, very special children God needed prematurely. Carrie, maybe God needed someone to make scarves for cold angels, like he made scarves for us. His smiling face, great attitude and overall fabulous self will be missed by all. May God guide you though this with all his wisdom. Kim Early IU Health North Pet Therapy Program
Doug and Carrie- We only were around Cory when he was much younger but it was obvious then that there was something very special about him. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. You’re in our thoughts and hearts. Love, Keith and Deb Jonasson
Doug & Carrie; Lana & Randal & family: I am so very sorry for your loss. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult, heartbreaking time. May your wonderful memories of this exceptional young man soon comfort away your grief. It will be a long road, but your guardian angel will be with you every step of the way. Take care. In Sympathy, Renae & Todd Hall
sorry for the loss of your son
I did not know Cory, but after reading his story, it seems like he was an exceptional young man. No words can express my sympathy nor take away your pain. May the happy memories comfort you. Debbie Jennings
Our family was so very sorry to learn of Cory’s sickness & now his passing. May God give your family comfort! Our son was a student at Brentwood in 2010-2012. Carrie, you always greeted the car rider kids on their way into school with such a warm & welcoming smile! Our hearts and prayers go out to you. Tobin, Carolyn, Spencer & Scott Decker
I remember this day so well! We sure will miss Cory, but are grateful to have gotten to know him! Chris, Carrie, Caylie & Cade Abbett
Cory loved life, and he loved everyone around him. He knew that he was blessed with a wonderful family who were deeply devoted to him. He was one of the most generous and kind people I have ever met. I treasure my memories of him, and I feel privileged to have been able to spend time with him. I know he is riding his bike and lighting up Heaven with his beautiful smile. His presence on earth was a blessing to all who knew him. We will miss him every day.
Cory was a very special boy. We loved visiting with him whenever he was in Pekin. I know Jerald was there to greet Cory when he entered the gates of heaven. I’m so thankful that Cory is at peace now and in no more pain. I will continue to pray for all the family. I know how much everyone is going to miss him. Hugs for all of you. Jerry Lynne McDonald

I will always remember his big beautiful smile, I don’t think I ever saw him without one. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
So sorry for your loss! What a brave young man..no words; just prayers.
It’s hard to know what to say, except that I’m thinking of you in friendship and praying God’s love lifts you and holds you close.
I will never forget that summer we taught Cory, Katrina and Matt to play spoons in the garage! So much laughter and joy! My thoughts are with you all!
Cory has been a part of our family since my son, Clayton, stayed with Carrie and Cory every morning before the boys went off to kindergarten! So many memories through the years of camps, overnights, bike rides, and of course the great R/C truck pulling the kite video! We are keeping your family in our hearts today and always! We love you and pray for peace.
Cory was one of the nicest boys in my granddaughter Maggie Laws’ class at Brentwood. I know you must be heartbroken. May God hold you in the shadow of his wing.
So sad to hear that this wonderful young man is no longer on this earth. He was an amazing person, and the world is a better place because he was in it. Prayers for your family. Paul and Tracy Crafts and family
