Daniel Merrill Proffitt, 56, Morgan County, died April 28, 2012. Dan was born April 21, 1956, in Montgomery County to the late Orie Merrill and Penny (Libka) Proffitt.
He graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1974. Dan was the third employee hired by FedEx in Indiana. He worked for 25 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Mooresville and the Morgan County Fifth Regiment. Dan had a strong faith and loved his family, country, and Harley Davidson. He had also volunteered at the Wheeler Mission. Dan loved all animals, but especially dogs.
Survivors include his son, Steven Merrill Proffitt; brother, Charles Steven Proffitt; sister, Leanna Cochran (David); step-son, Michael Branam; nephews, Matthew David and Samuel Chad Mendenhall; a host of loving cousins.
The memorial service will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morgan County Humane Society.
