David Merrill Barry

89, of Mooresville, passed away on January 2, 2020 at home. David was born on December 13, 1930 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Virgil M. and Emma Pauline (Brunton) Barry.

David was a graduate of Butler University and enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Colonel. After the service, he worked as a government contractor for Naval Avionics, later Raytheon in Indianapolis for many years, before retiring a second time. He also was a Judge for the Town of Mooresville for several years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed reading Tom Clancy and other spy novels, eating Italian food and sweets of all kinds. He especially loved the cherry pies from Gray Brothers Cafeteria.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Barry earlier this year; a sister Dorothy "Lennie" Dooley; a brother Donald “Mike” Barry; stepsons David Randolph, Michael Randolph and a great niece Brianna McQueen.

He is survived by his son Patrick Barry; sisters, Maureen Wuertz, Debbie (Steve) Verhines; stepdaughter Jeri Garmon; stepson Jason Cosand and 7 grandchildren.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate David’s life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8th from 12-3pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with military honors services beginning at 3pm Wedensday in the funeral home.

Final arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
