Della Jean Gunnell

Della Jean Gunnell, 92, of Mooresville, passed away on October 28,2022. Della was born in Mooresville, to the late Eugene & Edith Elkins on October 9, 1930. Della worked at Habig's Casuals for over 25 years. Della was a master gardener and avid bird watcher. She loved nothing more than grabbing her binoculars and sitting for hours just watching her beloved birds. Della was loving and compassionate. She loved to take care of others and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Della was the one that the family called in those unexpected emergencies, as she always handled them with empathy, kindness and determination. Most of all Della enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a fierce protector of her children and will be missed dearly.

  7. I just learned a month before Della’s passing that she was a distant relative of mine, and I will always regret that I did not get the chance to meet her and learn about my Elkins grandmother and relatives. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Della. I’d love to attend her memorial in Spring 2023 if I am able. Until then, you’re all in my prayers. May her sweet soul rest in peace.
