Dorothy "Dot" Payton

January 21, 1937 ~ October 31, 2020
Dorothy “Dot” Payton, 83, Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home October 31, 2020. Mrs. Payton was born January 21, 1937, in Crestwood, Kentucky, to the late Wallace and Lorena (King) Shearer. She married Rev. L.D. Payton on Valentines Day in 1953, and he survives.
Dot graduated from Crestwood High School, attended Butler County College in Kansas, and graduated from beauty school. She was a licensed hairdresser for many years. Additionally, Dot enjoyed working with her husband in the ministry most of her life. They worked in various Methodist churches in Indiana including Loogootee and retired from Lapel in 1995. Music was a huge part of Dot’s life – she had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She was strongly devoted to children’s ministry and believed in children’s evangelism. Dot was proud of her faith and took pride in bringing others to follow Jesus. Her actions and care for others were always motivated by her strong faith. A very close second was her family; Dot loved her children, grandchildren, and was always excited to see the family grow as great grandchildren arrived. She will be fondly remembered by her loved ones and friends.
Survivors include her husband of more than 67 years, Rev. L.D. Payton; son, Rev. Dennis (Tammy) Payton; daughter, Leslee D. Payton; grandsons, Rev. Andrew D. (Leslie) Payton and Rev. Daniel L. (Sarah) Payton; great grandchildren, Jayden, Paige, and Ella Payton; Emily, Carter, and Luke Payton; brother, William Roy “Bill” (Sandy) Sexton.

My husband and I loved spending time with Dot and L. D.; sharing and hearing stories, and singing with them their favorite songs. We will miss her terribly.ߒ Dave and Sandy Fanning
Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Dennis, so sorry to hear about your mother. My father died from the same thing. It’s not easy, but I’m certain she’s with the Lord now. Be assured you and yours are in our prayers. God be with you all. Greg and Carolyn Johnson

LD and Dot married Tim and I in 1989. She looks good in this picture. Such a memorable and special lady. Will never forget Dot or dear LD. Love you! Lauran Bess Swain and Tim Swain
Our condolences to the Payton family. MISS Dot was a beautiful lady of the 1st. Degree, glowing like an angel, singing like one too.
Sorry for your loss all her family; but I know she’s not in pain anymore for which I’m thankful. She’s walking around in heaven with a lot of our loved ones. She will be missed. Haven’t got to see her for a long time; but did get to talk to her by phone a few times. Think the last time I saw her was when her mom passed away.
