Dorothy M. Jarvis

67, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on August 20, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on July 4, 1952 to the late Clare (Helton) Gifford and Loyal J. Gifford in Bath, New York.

As a young lady, her family moved from New York to Terre Haute and later in Indianapolis. Dorothy grew up on the near Eastside attending Arsenal Tech High School, later graduating from Manual High School. After high school, Dorothy worked for Pioneer Title Insurance Company. It was at that time, she was set up on a blind date with Daniel Jarvis and immediately they hit it off and were married a year later on June 4, 1971. Once Daniel and Dorothy started their family, she stayed home to raise their three sons. Later, once the boys were in school, Dorothy went back to work part time for Pioneer Title, but later accepted a position with Perry Township Schools as a bus driver for 26 years until her retirement.
In her spare time, she enjoyed scrapbooking, participating in local scrapbooking groups, which she enjoyed using the latest scrapbook equipment as well as finding out the latest gossip.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers John Gifford and Loyal Joseph Gifford.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Daniel Jarvis; sons Dale Jarvis, David Jarvis, Duane Jarvis; brothers LeRoy Gifford, David Gifford, Leslie James Gifford, Albert Gifford; half-sister Vickie Bair and 6 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4pm at Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, IN, with services beginning at 4pm Saturday in the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Payton, officiating.

While flowers are welcomed, memorial contributions may be directed in Dorothy’s memory to the American Cancer Society or to the donor’s favorite charity.

I love my grandma so much and this is so hard she spend her last vacation whit me my siblings and my cousin maya her last everything was with us and I am so glad for the time I have got to spend with her she was an amazing grandma and I’m sad that’s shes gone but she’s pain free and enjoying life

  10. I met Dorothy through scrapbooking also. I always loved it when she attended my crops and I got to catch up on her family especially her granddaughters through her albums. She will be so missed. keeping you all in my prayers

  11. Dorothy and I have been buddies since we met at a scrapbooking event for consultants. She was madly dedicated to making albums and keeping memories for all of her family members. At my most recent 4-day event, Dorothy wasn’t well enough to attend but she and Dan managed a visit. Here is our photo just a few weeks ago. Breathe easily, Dorothy. We love you! Susie Skok

This was her last vacation she took me my sister my brother and my cousin.we went to turkey run and everything we did was so fun I’m really glad that I got almost 15 years with her she’s means to world to me and I couldn’t have a better grandma I wish she could have stayed here longer and watch me walk down the isle and I wish she could see my first kid I wish a lot of things but now she is pain free and is looking down on me j know she would be proud of me and who I’m becoming I miss her dearly but she will always be in my heart ❤️

  13. Dorothy was a scrapbook buddy. At out DePauw Scrapbook Weekends, she and I tended to be the “night owls”, keeping each other going. I will miss her company during those late nights. I like to think that she is already in Heaven scrapbooking that experience!

  14. I’m sorry I won’t be able to come today. Dorothy and I have scrapbooked together for many years. She was a wonderful caring person. She made beautiful scrapbooks for her Grandchildren. She was a caring person.
