Edna Palmer Smith,
95, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026. Edna was born in Indianapolis on May 8, 1931, to the late Walter Cure and Velma (Mattocks) Cure Ballard. She was married to Kenny Palmer for 31 years until his passing in 1979. They shared two daughters, Kathy and Jeana. Later in life she found love again and married Larry Smith, sharing 32 years of companionship until his passing in 2019.
Edna worked in banking for more than 30 years, retiring from Chase Bank in 1993. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. She and Kenny were long-time members of Grace Missionary Church. Later, she and Larry faithfully attended Plainfield Church of God and Camby Community Church.
Those who knew Edna knew a woman who held fast to her faith. Her memory will be cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Louise Taylor, Ruth Aranjo and Mary Shrake. Her first husband Kenny and daughter Kathy Palmer Wallace also preceded her in death, as well as her second husband Larry, and his son Jerry Smith.
Edna will be dearly missed by her surviving family including her daughter Jeana Palmer McGriffin (Jack), her son-in-law, Jerry Wallace (Kathy deceased), granddaughters Kim Wallace Bain (Joe), Christy Wallace Watts, Katie McGriffin Slaughter (Conrad), Shelby McGriffin Metz (Brad) and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Larry’s sons Ronald Smith (Anita), Bill Smith (Carol), and Rick Smith (Cindy); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edna’s family would also like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Cumberland Trace, Plainfield, for their care and compassion during the past eight years. They are also grateful for the comfort and care provided by Affinity Care during her final days.
