Elroy B "Roy" Lucero

Elroy B “Roy” Lucero, 91, Indianapolis, passed away June 22, 2023.  Mr. Lucero was born June 30, 1931, in Trinidad, Colorado, to the late Guadalupe and Margaret (Silva) Lucero.  He married Karn (Otteson) Lucero on May 10, 1975, and she survives.  Roy proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Roy was a barber for more than 50 years, a profession that was a perfect fit for him because he never met a stranger and was an excellent storyteller.  While living in Chicago, he was a drummer in various bands during the 1950s and 1960s.  As a Chicagoan, he also became a loyal Cubs and Bears fan.  While living in Indianapolis, Roy was a faithful member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, where he had chaired the Pastor/Parish Committee.  He enjoyed the outdoors – fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time at Raccoon Lake and attending the Covered Bridge Festival in Rockville.  Roy was also comfortable in the kitchen, often experimenting with recipes that he was never afraid to try on his family.  Roy will be fondly remembered by his loving family and friends for his strong determination, great sense of humor, and his loving and supportive nature.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Orlando “Lon” Lucero and Gertrude Lucero.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Karn Lucero; children, Tim Lucero, Gina Lucero, Scott (Caroline) Lucero, Ken (Carrie) Lucero, Alex (Mandy) Lucero, Kara Lucero, and Kristin (Chris) Lucero-Golden; sisters, Beatrice Latta and Carmen McLaughlin; ten grandchildren.

Roy’s Life Celebration® Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 East High Street, Mooresville.  Visitation will be Friday, June 30, 2023, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services following at 1 p.m.  Pastor Charles “Woody” Thompson will officiate, and burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Visit
