Fred K. Eckstein, 85, Mooresville, died peacefully March 1, 2012, in his residence. Fred was born November 23, 1926, in Indianapolis, to the late Wilhelm and Elfreida (Herlich) Eckstein.
Mr. Eckstein was a 1944 graduate of George Washington High School. He worked as a machinist for forty years at Link Belt, retiring in 1983. Fred loved the outdoors and was a longtime member of the Indianapolis Hiking Club and was also active at the Mooresville Senior Center. Fred was a fifty year member of the Monrovia United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Rag Time Society and was an automobile enthusiast. His gentle nature and loving way will be remembered fondly by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Gregory.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Hill) Eckstein, to whom he was united in marriage August 13, 1949; son, Fred K. Eckstein, II (Norrine) of Manassas, Virginia; daughters, Monica Overman (James) of Bloomington, Karen Jarvis (Charles) of Camby, and Kathie Tooley (Larry) of Mooresville; brother, Walter Gregory of Wheaton, Illinois; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
The Eckstein Family would like to thank the staff of St. Francis Hospice, especially Cindi, Angie, Martha, and Peg, for their special care in Fred’s final days. A special thanks to Karen Harmon for her care during the last few years.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2012, at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 4, 2012. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mooresville Senior Center or to St. Francis Hospice.
