Frederick Lee Hunt

Frederick Lee Hunt, 88, Avon, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2026.  Fred was born in Indianapolis on June 29, 1937, to the late Kenneth and Olieva (Miley) Hunt.  Fred married the love of his life, Sue Prichard, on January 20, 1959, and she survives.

Fred graduated from George Washington High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.  He served a 4-year apprenticeship in the typesetting industry and was employed at Weimer Typesetting for 25 years.  Fred left Weimer as a Vice President to found his own business, Hunt Type.  He later worked for Halo Advertising Specialties for 25 years before retiring.

A true patriot, Fred was proud of his service in the Marine Corps and helped re-energize the Avon American Legion Post #145 with his good friend Paul Allen.  He served as commander for five years and was an active member for many years.  An accomplished pilot, Fred was a member of Sky-Vu Flyers.  He met many friends through the years with his beloved flying.  He was also a member of Toastmasters, enjoyed golfing, and working puzzles.  Fred was the consummate salesman who never met a stranger.  His gift for listening was a wonderful trait that also aided him in life’s work.  Above all, Fred was a wonderful family man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Newland, and a brother, Paul Hunt.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sue; children, Julie Bates and David (Theresa) Hunt; sister, Sharon Kay Lozon; grandchildren, Rachel (Jameal Ghaznawi) Bates, Lindsey (Shawn Hagerty)  Bates, Ally Hunt, and Elijah Hunt.

A private memorial service will be held in the chapel at Westridge Park Cemetery, where inurnment will take place.  Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avon American Legion Post #145, 4812 E. Main St., Avon, IN 46123.
