Gerald William Holmes

Gerald William “Jerry” Holmes, 83, of Plainfield, passed away at home on July 29, 2026. He was born on October 17, 1942, in Indianapolis.

Jerry graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1961 and joined the United States Air Force shortly after.

Throughout his life, Jerry worked as the Area Manager at Allison Transmission for 35 years, where he took great pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his career. After serving four years in the United States Air Force as a K-9 Handler, Jerry proudly dedicated 32 years to the Indiana National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant.

In his free time, Jerry enjoyed fishing and ice fishing, watching NASCAR races, family gatherings, making homemade ice cream, and cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. Jerry was a proud member of the Eagles Lodge in Plainfield, the American Legion in Avon, and St. Ann Catholic Church.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Christie Fletcher; and brother-in-law, Bill Shank.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife Gloria; stepchildren, Corey Howard (Megan) and Connie Lenahan (Mart); grandchildren, Bryce Wicks (Katelyn), Nolan Wicks (Hailey Simmons), Wrenn Wicks (Lucas Galassi), Megan Fletcher, Mason Fletcher, and Addie Nellinger; great-grandchildren, Brynn Wicks; siblings Bruce Holmes (Kathy) and Carolyn Shank; son-in-law, Mark Wicks (Gina); sister-in-law, Barb Ross (Larry) and many other loving relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Monday, August 3, from 10:00 am to 11:30 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 11:30 pm with Deacon Joe Beauchamp officiating. Burial will follow the service at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville with Military Honors performed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s honor to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
