Goldie I. Lakes

Goldie I. Lakes, 90, Mooresville, died August 13, 2012, in Miller’s Merry Manor. Mrs. Lakes was born February 26, 1922, in Fairfield, Illinois, to the late Homer Elsworth and Mary Ellen (Bell) Smith.
She worked for a number of years at Thiesing Veneer and Automotive Armature. Goldie enjoyed fishing, camping, and listening to blue grass music. She was a fabulous cook, making everything from scratch. Goldie will be missed by a loving family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lakes; brothers, Robert E. Smith and Frank “Eugene” Smith; sisters, Edna Halderman, Evelyn Matthews, and Aline Freeman.
Survivors include her children, Bonnie McKinney of McKee, Kentucky, Gene Lakes of Stanton, Kentucky, Brenda Lakes of Nashville, Indiana, Julie Lakes (Randy) of Trafalgar, and Sandy Lakes (Julie) of Mooresville; brother, Homer E. Smith, Jr. of Fairfield, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren.
The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Nales Funeral Home, 106 East Center Street, Fairfield, Illinois, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2012. Local visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Fairfield, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society. She was a roommate with my mother at millers when my mother had knee surgery is how I Met Goldie. And I would go in a visit her from time to time. Nice lady. When She was having a bad day, when I came in I would say Hi and start talking to her and she would seem to calm and change.
