James D. Harper

James D. Harper, 79, Spencer, formerly of Monrovia, passed away on February 23, 2024.  Jim was born on August 22, 1944, in Martinsville, to the late Clyde Harper and Opal Marie (Fisher) Lewellen. 
 
 He attended Monrovia High School and was the owner and operator of Harper Valley Trash/Refuse Service for many years.  A hard-working man, Jim also hauled gravel, raised livestock, and farmed through the years to help provide for his family.  Jim was an easygoing man who never turned down an opportunity to eat out, typically favoring the local mom-and-pop diners where he was known for giving the waitresses a hard time.  Jim will be fondly remembered by his loving family and friends.  
 
 In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his sons, Ruth Harper and his second wife, Anna Harper.  
 
 Survivors include his wife, Karen Harper; sons, Tom (Bonnie) Harper of Monrovia and Richard Harper; sister, Patricia (Gary) Nicholson; two grandchildren, Mason (Hannah) Haper and Matthew Harper; one great grandson, Weston Harper.

  1. Karen my heart is broke for you! Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Jim was such a good man and friend. Going into Village Inn and not seeing him is so hard. Always know that when you want to come eat you are welcome to sit with Mary and I. If you need anything at all please feel free to get a hold of me. We love you guys like family.

  3. So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing!!! Such a good guy to my mom and others in the apartments where they lived! Appreciated that they always checked on my mom to make sure she was ok and called if they couldn’t raise her. He’ll be missed!
