I have so many memories. One that is forefront is the day Alex was born. We were so excited. John, Tanya and I went out and celebrated leaving Dawn in the hospital to rest. We had so much fun! With this story, it was the days before cell phones. We had no idea, Dawn gets the news that Alex had a hole in his heart (soon after we left the hospital) and he was only expected to live for only 6 weeks. Wow, thank goodness that didn’t happen and John and Alex had an awesome relationship. John was always a part of our family. Always…. John, I am going to miss you.
I am sad for him and for Alex. I met John once so many years ago but never got to know him. I’m glad he was in Alex’s Life, funny that he loved astronomy too! A strong resemblance in the two. RIP
Most Saturdays I spent with John bowling at Terra Plaza. Also played ping pong in his garage. Many adventures in his Mercury. Fishing for bullhead catfish in White Lick creek. He was good friend and I have many memories of those days.
I went on line to search for a friend today, only to find he has passed. I met John at Ft. Rucker, Dothan, Alabama. From there we caught a bus to Biloxi, Mississippi to train as Air Traffic Controllers. After training we were sent to Dong Tam, Viet Nam and then chose to spend another tour at Long Than, Vietnam. The extra time spent in order to be discharged from the military on our return to the united states. From there we returned home in 1970, never to meet up again. He was a good friend and I regret we were unable to spend any time together here in the states. Although late, My most sincere condolences to John’s family. Russell L. Gilmore Arizona
