Janet, Todd &Tony, I am so sorry for your loss and your family’s loss. I have many fond memories of times spent with you all. Johnny was so active with so many different groups during his time here on earth and gave and helped more than most will ever know. May God keep his guiding hand on your shoulder and give you strength during your time of need. Even though we have many memories of Johnny, he will be greatly missed. Draw strength from your friends and family during this time of sorrow.
To me, it was a great Honor to present J.J. with our Detachment of Indiana Sons of The American Legion Distinguish Service Award. Our friendship started long before that, but to see the look on his face, was worth the trip to Post 103. He was a true spirit of our living God, Love was in everything he did, and he did a lot. May our Heavenly Father welcome him and keep his family comforted during these unsettled times. Past Detachment Commander Duane Alexander (Cindy)
Jack & I with 2 sons moved to Lake Hart in Oct. 1984. Dry Lake and no well. Monrovia Fire Dept. would bring us water out and put it in a 1500 gal. holding tank, until we could get a well drilled. Among those firemen,Johnny was one of them. A couple years later the house next to us caught on fire. A very cold night, there water was freezing, firemen were cold. Jack and I made coffee and invited them to come in and get warm. Johnny had to tell us a joke, imagine that. In 1989, our house caught on fire, now the firefighters where helping us. When Lake Hart was a town, Jack was the Town Marshall. We still had fire dept. to bring us water, so we could have back up water. Johnny would come out in the big red tanker , just as proud as a peacock. One day Jack and I were standing out in front waiting for Johnny to bring us water. Johnny got out of the truck, ask me something, then ask if Jack had any bullets in his gun. Jack told him they only let him carry one bullet, Johnny said, like Barney Fife? Jack said, yep. Johnny said, Hell, I am not worried, you’ll miss. Then they shook hands and started laughing, then Johnny had a joke. Memories is what we have. I know when I get to heaven, Johnny will greet me with a hug and then say, did you here the one about. I know we are not suppose to ask God why, but sometimes it is really hard not to. They say there is a reason why he wanted. Probably because he was very special. Janet, God Be with you and your family in this great time of need. Hang on to all the precious memories. Jack and Dee Adams
JJ, you were a man with honor, humor, love, service, authority. I am so proud to call you a very good friend of mine for many many years, we have had so many laughs and a few tears together. I will never forget your stories, and jokes and everything you told me about your family, how much you loved them all, especially the grandchildren. You will be carried in my heart forever more so you will never be truelly gone, but you will be so very much missed, especially your catch phrases and that laugh and always a smile. love you JJ.
You always had a smile, a nod of the head, a hand shake or a hug for everyone you met, you will be so missed by all who knew you.
just talked to John last Friday. came into work and he was telling me how we was going to remodel the house. The man always had time for everyone. I don’t know anyone else like him. I started dealing with him through work nearly 20 years ago and quickly developed a friendship that has lasted all these years. What a tremendous loss. I’m just glad I had the chance to know him for our short time we shared on this earth. Greg Charley
JJ was one of the first persons I met when I moved to the Mooresville area 2 1/2 years ago. Here’s what I learned. He was a friend to everyone, helped anyone who needed it, loved veterans, gave so very much to his community in so many different ways and was a true American Patriot. He can never be replaced and he will never be forgotten. He was loved by all. We veterans will miss you my friend. Ray Phillips
Love the picture of JJ with his arms outstretched like he is getting ready to give someone a big bear hug. That is how he always greeted Steve and I when we stopped into the Mooresville Legion post- a huge smile, a big hug and a beer 🙂 Sorry that Steve and I won’t be able to be at the service tomorrow in person, but we sure will be there in spirit, even from miles away.

I met Johnny by chance at the IGA in Monrovia. I was in the beginning stages of putting together a community hog roast for a friend who was diagnosed with lung cancer. Johnny intorduced himslef and pardoned himself for interupting the conversation. He asked if we woukd like to use his roaster for the hogs. After a warm conversation he offered to cook the hogs, volunteered so much of his time, amongst so much else. I immediately had a new friend. This man touched my life and my families life from the moment we met. Johnny, we will miss you and we shall meet again!
Pop, You taught me more than you will ever know. You are a true servant leader. You were always there when I needed you. Even though you left us too early , your memory will last a lifetime. You showed me a work ethic that very few can match. You showed me it’s better to help others than help yourself. You showed us to have a great love for our country and to never forget those that served. You taught me it’s ok to cry and show emotion for those that you care about. Thanks for being there for me. You may have been taken away from us too soon but you will live in my heart and soul forever. Your son, love always , Todd
Janet, Todd and Tony, You are in my thoughts and prayers. He sure taught us a lot and gave us many laughs. So many fond memories. Love you all!
Thoughts and prayers to you Janet, and the rest of the family. What a great honorable man. I will treasure all the fun times at the baseball field after the games that we spent just laughing and enjoying the company. He taught so many so much. Rest easy my friend.

I have so many wonderful memories of the Mitchell family. You are all in my heart. I can still see Johnny coming to the house in his fire pants and helmet, a beer in each pocket, telling me ‘We got a call at the firehouse that you were canning, I’m here to put out the fire.’. You were there for me in good times and bad and I will always love you, Janet and the boys. xoxoxox Paula Clark Lincks
