Joseph Robert Conwell

February 17, 1984 ~ March 3, 2023
Joseph Robert “Joey” Conwell, 39, Indianapolis, the beloved son of Stanley K. Conwell and Sherri E. Thompson-Pygman, passed away March 3, 2023. Joey, described as the “purest essence of joy”, was born February 17, 1984, in Kokomo. While the family was told that he would only live three months, he defied many odds and brought an immense amount of joy to his loved ones.
Joe was born with a rare chromosome issue that caused him to be deaf and blind. He became the inspiration for the S5 Law in Indiana that made one on one services available in schools for children with special circumstances and needs. Joey and his family lobbied arduously to make this happen. He loved Teddy Ruxspin, all kinds of music, and watching television. Joey was a lover of water and enjoyed swimming. Two of his greatest gifts were his wonderful hugs and his ever-contagious laugh. Although Joey’s life was not always an easy one, he truly lived every day to the fullest and has left this world a better place for all that he taught.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Robert R. Thompson and Martha & Charles Conwell.
Survivors include his parents, Stan Conwell and Sherri Thompson-Pygman; siblings, Jeremey (Mary) Conwell, Christopher (Emily) Conwell, Zachary (Hallie) Pygman, and Jasmine Pygman; grandmother, Marian Thompson; aunts and uncles, Carole Henson, Jeanette Cross, Robert (Mary) Thompson; nieces and nephews, Devon, Blake, A.J., Landon, Elleanor and Amiyah; great nephew, Ares; a host of cousins.
Joey’s Life Celebration® visitation and funeral service will be held at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8, 2023, 12 Noon – 2 p.m., with services beginning at 2 p.m. A burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery.
