Joseph L. Steffy

80, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away on May 7, 2023. Joe was born on March 19, 1943 to Fred and Mabel (Allen) Steffy in Hillsdale, Indiana.

After Joe graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1961, he went on to study Tool and Die making. He worked numerous jobs in his field and retired in 2006 from United Technologies. In 1968, Joe met Deborah McNeely at the beauty shop where Debbie worked. Joe and Debbie went on to have 2 children, Cheryl, and Fred. After Joe retired, he spent his time traveling and spending time with family. He was a member of the Montezuma Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He will be remembered as a loyal, trustworthy, organized, tough on the exterior man, who was sometimes opinionated sharing his strong views on politics, but also kindhearted who would help anyone in need.

Joe was preceded in death by parents Frederick and Mabel Steffy and infant Steffy.

He is survived by wife Debbie, children Cheryl and Fred, grandchildren Arianna and Victoria, great granddaughter Adalynn, sister Ida Pearl (Tom), and nephew Thomas, who will all miss him dearly.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Joe’s life on Friday May 12th from 5-7pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 12:30pm in the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 3pm, Saturday in Helt’s Prairie Cemetery in Hillsdale, IN.

  1. My cousin Joe and I shared the same interest in Ancestry and he was a great help to me. I will miss his sense of humor and kindness. My deepest condolences to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you…….losing a loved one is difficult but remember the good times you had with him…….Joe wa loved by everyone; me included…….I always treasured the times I spent with my Aunt Mable, Uncle Fred, cousins Jesse, Joe, and Ida……as we became adults we saw each other less and less but they are never out of my thoughts……I hear a song, read something on line or in a newspaper, etc they remind me of my dear aunt, uncle and cousins and the memories start flowing……..I know Joe wants everyone to ‘CELEBRATE” his life not mourn his loss………..again my prayers and thoughts are with all of you at this time….
