Joy Mae Deem

Joy Mae (Davis) Deem, 85, of Grandview Health and Rehab Center in Martinsville and formerly of Monrovia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 19, 2012.

She was born November 1, 1926, in Owen County, the daughter of Robert and Goldie Mae (Abrel) Davis.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Vaughn Mitchell.

Joy graduated in 1944 from Monrovia High School. She worked for 18 years as a clerk and supervisor for the State House, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, Hall. Joy enjoyed country music, tennis, and watching all kinds of racing.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Mitchell of Camby, and Patty (Norman) Ratts of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Robert Mitchell of Eminence, Laura Caudill of Martinsville, Aaron Mitchell of Mooresville, Deanna Ratts Boyd of Flat Rock, Illinois, and Darrin Ratts of Martinsville; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012 in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hall. Pastors Roger Boyd and David Neese will officiate the service. Visit www.carlislebranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
