Judith Sandra “Judy” Cogswell, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Judy was born on July 3, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Kenneth and Helen (Janes) Cogswell. She spent her life devoted to caring for others, primarily as a homemaker, where her warmth and generosity created a welcoming home for all who knew her. She also worked at various times in retail, sales, and waitressing, always bringing her friendly spirit and strong work ethic to everything she did.
Judy had a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests that brought her joy throughout her life. She loved collecting bells and expressing her creativity through drawing. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—sunbathing, listening to music, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and spending time living and working on a farm. She especially cherished holidays, with the Fourth of July and Christmas holding a special place in her heart. Judy delighted in giving gifts to others, making birthdays and holidays memorable for those she loved.
In her younger years, Judy was a cheerleader in high school and carried that same spirited energy throughout her life. She enjoyed bowling and even spent time on a league. She took pride in her appearance, always enjoying doing her nails, hair, makeup, and wearing jewelry. A devoted fan of the Indianapolis Colts, she rarely missed cheering on her team. Judy also had a fondness for a cold Pepsi—always served with ice.
She held a deep appreciation for Native American culture and enjoyed attending pow wows. Above all, Judy will be remembered for her open heart. She welcomed everyone with kindness and love, never meeting a stranger and making all feel at home in her presence.
Judy’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and compassion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Ryan Wallin, Troy Wallin, Candy Biddle, Rhonda Showalter (Larry), Julie Smith (Marty), and Sandra Warner (Mark); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Travis Cogswell; sister, Debbi Cogswell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
