Kathryn A. Sappington

Kathryn A. (Carney) Sappington, 86, Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2023.  Mrs. Sappington was born February 12, 1937, in Terre Haute, to the late John J. and Marie (Doerner) Carney.  She married the late John R. Sappington on June 27, 1955, and he preceded her in death on December 9, 2015. 

Kathryn graduated from Schulte High School and after raising her children, she worked as the Express Mail Clerk for the United States Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1992.  She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Women of the Moose.  After she and John retired, they enjoyed traveling to various gambling destinations.  Kathryn will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, wonderful sense of humor, and her gentle spirit. 

In addition to her parents and John, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John Carney and Mary Margaret Carney, and granddaughter, Theresa M. Stewart. 

Survivors include her children, John R. (Deborah) Sappington II, William T. (Lora) Sappington, and Mary Jane Stewart; seven grandchildren, Eric, Alissa, Kayla, Tyler, Logan, Clayton, and Jenna; ten great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren. 

Kathryn’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be held Friday, August 11, 2023, 6 to 8 p.m., in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023, in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1200 N. Indiana Street, Mooresville.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  Visit
