Linda Lou Elkins

Linda Lou O’Hair Elkins

79, of Plainfield, went home to the loving arms of Jesus on June 18, 2018. She was born August 27, 1938 in Greencastle, IN as the first of five children to Andy and Marie (Whitaker) O’Hair. She graduated from Mooresville High School in 1956.

Linda worked all her life for various employers including Coleman Insurance Agency, Hall Elementary, Sidener Supply, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, and finally at the IDOC Reception Diagnostic Center where she affectionately referred to her co-workers as her “prison buddies” and from where she retired in 2001. Linda never met a stranger and she had a knack of moving into your heart and making herself at home. Linda loved the Lord her God with all of her heart, mind, soul and strength. Her church, daily prayer and bible reading were very important to her. She and her husband Fred were long-time members of Hazelwood Baptist Church and most recently members of Faith Baptist Church in Avon, where Linda enjoyed crafting flower arrangements for ailing congregation members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Stanley O’Hair, and her step-daughter Juanita Elkins.

Linda is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 52 years, Fred P. Elkins; her daughter, Sara (Don) Brock; her son Dan (Sally) Richardson; her step-sons Fred (Mary) Elkins II and David Elkins; her sisters Sharon Gibbons, Deanna Bernier, and Jo Ellen Kimmel. Also left to treasure the memory of their “Nanny” are her 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8pm Thursday, June 21st at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville with a Celebration of Life Service there at 10am Friday, June 22nd. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hall, IN.

  6. Linda, I loved you so. You were such a positive role model and influence. Maybe the greatest gift you gave me was a stronger Christian foundation and I am ever grateful to you. I remember a fun camp trip we all took–you had a gentle, fun-loving way that made everything fun. When I was 5 and got hurt at your house, you wrapped my arm in a towel and held me in your arms all the way to the hospital as Fred drove as fast as he could. You kept me calm. I loved a book about a Christmas mouse that I read every time I came over, so one year you gave it to me. I still have it, a treasured gift from you–but more than that book, I treasure all the time we spent together. I stayed with you and Fred many times as a college student, trying to figure out life. I am sure the pearly gates were wide open for you. I will miss you forever. Thank you for everything.

  7. Fred and family: Our deepest sympathy on the loss of Linda. She was a special woman who lit up a room with her smile and her joy of family and life. We celebrate her wonderful life.

  8. Sara, I am so sorry for the lost of your mom Linda. I always remember her as being
such a sweet & loving person. Prays & hugs. May God be with your family during
    this time of lost.

  9. So sorry I could not attend Linda’s services, I was on vacation at Gulf Shores. She was such a caring loving person to my Mother, Elva O’Hair Porter. For many years she came to visit her at her home in Bainbridge bringing gifts, pictures and made Mom several beautiful wreaths (which I still enjoy). We all loved her so much and she will be missed dearly.

  10. I worked with Linda just a short time many years ago but in just that short amount of time, she left the sweetest impression on me that I’ll never forget! She generated a loving, positive, kind, and sweet spirit every time I saw her! Her smile lit up a room and her laughter was contagious! I was just thinking about her the other day, reliving “old” memories. Rest in Heaven Miss Linda! Your time on earth was legendary and you will be missed by many but Heaven has you now and I’m positive you will be laughing it up with Jesus in no time!! I love you!!

    In Christ,
