Marjorie A. (Mills) Phelps, 93, Mooresville, earned her eternal reward in Heaven on May 16, 2025.  She married her beloved husband of 67 years, Bobby Phelps, on November 26, 1949, and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2017.  Mrs. Phelps was born June 4, 1931, in Parke County, Indiana, to the late Lloyd Mills and Josephine (Hazlett) Jeffries.

Marjorie graduated from Greene Township High School, where she excelled as the captain of the basketball team.  She continued her education at the Indiana Business College.  An accomplished and organized person, she served as the capable secretary for Ambassadors for Christ for twenty years and also worked for the Sudan Interior Mission.  Marjorie was a loyal member of Mt. Gilead Church for more than sixty years.  She was a devout Christian lady who raised her children in the faith, assuring that they too would enjoy an eternal reward someday.

It is difficult to think of Marjorie Phelps without thinking about her cooking.  She was known for delicious yeast rolls, noodles, and sweet tea, just to name a few.  Everything was from scratch, and she showered her love with cooking for family and friends.  She had a natural love for people that endeared her to others.  Even during her last year in nursing care, she was collecting friends in the form of nurses and other family visitors at the Springs in Mooresville.  Marjorie will be forever remembered for her kindness and compassionate nature.

In addition to her parents and Bobby, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jay and Thomas Jeffries; a great grandson, Dylan Whitley.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda (the late Larry)  Crews, Debra (the late Thomas) Whitley, and Terri (Don) Bowman; brother, Kim Jeffries; sisters, Betty Hall, Audrey Felkner, and Gayle Bradburn; grandchildren, Jeff (Emmily) Crews, Jason (Stacy) Crews; Tom (Lyn) Whitley, Rob (Anna) Whitley, Dan (Christy) Whitley, and Alicia Whitley; Logan (Meagan) Bowman; 15 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather on Monday, May 19, 2025, 11 am to 1 p.m., at Mt. Gilead Church, 6019 East State Road 144, Mooresville.  The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., with Jeff Faull officiating.  The burial and committal service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Rockville.  Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.  Visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.

Guestbook

  1. Ms. Marjorie was an absolute angel and I feel so lucky to have known her. She lived her faith and the love she extended to all who were blessed to know her was so heartfelt. To her daughters, my heart joins yours in prayer…knowing that she is among the angels and the loved ones who were waiting to welcome her in heaven. She will be missed.

  2. What an outstanding mother and a disciple for our Lord. Her daughters are definitely mini me’s of her.

  3. I’ve heard about Marge since I was a child. She and my aunt Phyllis Worden were basketball players together in school. They were like sisters. A wonderful lady.

  4. Thanks for all the fun memories at your home in the country. My Aunt Betty (Crews) is surely welcoming you to Heaven. May God bless your family with peace.
